Purple Cobras one win or tie away from the glory; Gearheads look to flush the Foremen!
Well if you were to place a bet, you might want to bet that the Purple Cobras are going to win the BlakBak PHN Summer 2008 Championships in their inaugural year! After team captain and owner Jay Stevens traded himself away, the Cobras have gone on to be a dominant force. Kyle Kenno, is still on fire, scoring a goal and adding three assists to an impressive season so far. Kyle, who is an unrestricted free agent after this season, had this to say, "Do I want to win this for the Purple Cobras? Of course I do! I BLEED PURPLE and BLACK of the Cobras, but hey, after this season, if the Gearheads want me, SHOW ME THE MONEY BABY!!!" Steve Myska, while a consistent bet to miss on breakaways, scored the game winning goal and was happy with his teams performance. Asked whether or not he thought they could pull it out next week, he was a little confused about what that meant, but then just said, "Ummm yeah..."
In the consolation finals, which has been dubbed the Toilet Bowl Championships, the Irish Gearheads looked to rescue their first place season with a win after soundly defeating the Terminators in the other series, but only to lose in a shootout. The Foremen saw the return of their heart and soul, when Jerry Paglia returned to the lineup. Scoring two goals, the team went on to score three powerplay goals. After Mike Di Iorio tipped in a shot from the point, defenceman Jason Cohn was sent off of defense, and moved forward by team owner Brian Connors (Connors has been referred to as the George Steinbrenner of PHN hockey). That seemed to do the trick, as Cohn went on to score four goals and add three assists for a career night for him. When asked by this reporter what he thought was the reason, he said, "Clearly, Connors lost faith in my defensive play. I am a career defenseman, and well, he just pulled the rug out of my career. I had two choices, sulk in the corner like a baby, or go out and rip up the score sheet...you know what I did!" Rick Bernardi scored the game winning goal and added two assists, totalling his season output in goals in this one game. Rumours have it that Bernardi and Santangelo will be leaving the Gearheads at the end of the season and will be managing another team next year.

Myska Breakaway Institue holds onto Kenno for the balance of the season!
The rumours that were flying around last week about the possible firing of Kyle "Hands" Kenno as the coach for the Steve Myska Breakaway Institute has been put to rest. The institute and Kenno's agent have agreed on terms that will keep Kenno on as coach for the balance of the 08 PHN Summer Season.
"I was really upset with the results I was getting from the first few weeks of the course, but after I saw "Hands" goal on Monday night I knew I just had to keep him on. I figure if he can do it, so can I! With determination and some hard work in the off season I think I can have it by the start of the 08-09 PHN Winter season."
Mr. Myska is referring to Kenno's goal he scored in the second period where he stealthly manouevered his way through the opposition and proceeded to score a beautiful goal from right on top of the goalie.
In other news, the SMBI had it's first ever induction and graduation in the same game as "Papa" Vince Facchini missed a wide open net only to score 10 seconds later to avoid being rushed off to the Institute.
Stay tuned to the PHN website for updates in the finals of the PHN and to see if Steve Myska can really score on a breakaway!
